Bianca Alyssa Pérez (she/her) was born and raised in Mission, Texas – a small southern town bordering Mexico. She is currently an MFA Poetry candidate at Texas State University. Her poems have been published in The New York Quarterly,  Re-side MagazineMagma Poetry UKReclamationATX, Psst! Press’ The Sappho Diaries, and East French Press. Forthcoming in The Ice Colony Anthology. She is also the co-host of a horror podcast, The Basement Girls, with writer Stephanie Grossman. Her poetry centers on her Latin culture, spirituality, family, and womanhood.

What she’s looking for in poetry submissions: She enjoys pieces that engage the reader sonically and thematically with extra attention to socio-cultural movements. Additionally, Bianca loves poems that gather strength from personal experience, especially experiences from marginalized communities in relation to sexual orientation, gender, race, disability and/or socioeconomics; voices that are systemically silenced should be heard. Vivid images (whether abstract or concrete) are her favorite things to interact with when reading poetry.

Writers she admires: Melissa Oliva-Lozada, Olivia Gatwood, Adrian Matejka, Nikki Giovanni, Mary Oliver, Yusef Komunyakaa, and Edna St. Vincent Millay.
